Yet another victim

Emily Williams's guitar teacher, Michael George plays "Una Dia en Noviembre" during a memorial service for the twelve year old that was shot in the head during a gun battle between security guards and robbers in Randpark Ridge near Johannesburg.

Yet another victim, Emily probably didn't even see it coming, as she was in the back of her mothers car, when the gunfight broke out, she was probably looking forward to meeting her friend and going to school, but because of the scourge that we have in this country, she now lies dead underground, whilst the scum that are destroying this country are still alive...
God, how I wish we could could change that, bring back the death penalty, I'll gladly become the executioner and I promise you that I will sleep well everynight.

Jet Park fire

A large LPG fire at a chemical warehouse in Jet Park near O.R Tambo airport. This fire was huge, and it was raining quite hard, which makes me wonder just how immense this fire could have been on a dry hot day.

The barrier for the public was about 500 meters back , but as I was arriving, an ambulance was coming through, so I simply pulled a "Neil"- I get as close to the back of it and simply follow it through, as if I am supposed to be there. Nobody questioned me.

I stopped here with various forms of emergency workers and shot my pics, I was drenched, but the heat from the flame was still quite intense. This pic was put on the front page of The Citizen newspaper, unfortunately the printing let me down a bit...

More robbers, more hassles...

A couple of nabbed suspects on a street in Mayfair, Johannesburg. A group of eight armed men stormed a cash and carry store, shot a policeman and a shoot-out ensued, two of the suspects were caught, the rest managed to get away.Yet another robbery and yet another cop who feels the need to forget about his job and come on over and harass a photographer that is outside the crime-scene area. What I've noticed is that the cops that come harass photographers are not the ones actually doing the job on the street, but the ones that generally sit in a posh office eg: Supt and the likes, that join the scene and expect everyone to simply do what they say regardless.
By the way, the crime-scene tape is just out of frame below me and my moaning friend...

First day of the rest of your life

Its been quiet on the news photography side. It usually is over the Christmas period, but I always know when things will start to happen again, thats when I'm sent to get pics of Grade ones on their first day at school, not my favourite job. But then again there is worse.... At least things will be back to normal soon...

Cheetah cubs and the foiled robbery

Today, I went to get pics of 4 three-month-old cubs at DHL near OR Tambo airport, where they are on their way to Mauritius to the Casela Bird Park to be part of a breeding program, it was kind of a feel-good story about the efforts of some people trying to help these beautiful animals.

There was also another feel good story today. This uplifting story was one which included the deaths of 11 would be cash-in-transit robbers in Bela-Bela, Limpopo- the police where waiting for them and laid into them . They didn't arrest them, they simply killed them.

What a awesome feel-good story, its been a good day...

Well-done guys.
