Million Dollar Pigeon Race

The Million Dollar Pigeon race winner, Ali comes in to land at the loft.The Million Dollar Pigeon race is regarded by pigeon fanciers as the greatest pigeon race in the world, with thousands of pigeon fanciers coming from 32 countries across the world to take part. The pigeons are released from Trompsburg, some 550km south of Sun City on Saturday morning 6 am and the winning bird arrived at 15h42 in the afternoon.The prize money totaled $1.2 Million plus hot spot winners winning cars and the overall winner pocketed $200 000.A pigeon rests on the loft before entering it after the race.Number tags to be put on the legs of the birds confirming their place in the race.Karel Klemens from the Czech Republic kisses his pigeon, Ali after it won the Million Dollar Pigeon race.One of the top 100 pigeons during the auction for the winning birds, Ali, the bird that won the race the day before was sold for R135 000.

Kibbutz Lubner

Kibbutz Lubner located in Olifantsfontein, Midrand is a Israeli styled Kibbutz that has 22 residents that are intellectually disabled. This gives them the opportunity, tools and training to farm plants and vegtables in a safe fullfilling environment. The Kibbutz is run under the auspices of Chevrah Kadisha, a Jewish charity organisation that has many projects including Selwyn Segal that runs homes for intellectually disabled people from all walks of life.Beverly Cohen works in the laundry.72 year old Max Cohen says that the people at the Kibbutz are like his family. Former President of Haiti, Jean Bertrand Aristide, now exiled in South Africa cries as he speaks of his willingness to return to Haiti after the 7.0 earthquake that destroyed the majority of Port Au Prince and killed hundreds of thousands of people.
