IRU 100 km World Champions

2015 Comrades marathon winner, Gift Kelehe, 2016 Comrades winner, David Gatebe and 2014 Comrades winner, Bongmusa Mthembu enter the arrivals hall as the South African 100 km ultra road running team arrived back home victorious to South Africa at OR Tambo International Airport near Johannesburg after competing and winning the IRU 100km World Championships in Spain over the weekend.
 The team as a whole won the Mens team competition with Bongmusa Mthembu taking second place overall, Gift Kelehe won the Masters category in a new record time with David Gatebe second.

Jukskei flooding

People look at the devastation next to the Jukskei river in Alexandra, Johannesburg, South Africa. The area in the floodline was hit very hard during large scale rains that hit the area.
Some of the residents have built their shacks close to the flood line and are severely affected by hard rains.

A busy day in Braamfontein. #FeesMustFall

The #FeesMustFall protest took a violent turn at Wits University in Johannesburg today. The #FeesMustFall movement demands free higher education and has a big following around the country.
 A protester throws a TV cameras extension cable at security guards during the Fees must fall protest at Wits University. 
There was running battles with police through out the University.
Teargas was used extensively to stop the students regrouping within the University premises.

The students regrouped outside the University and barricaded the main road leading through Braamfontein. There was more running battles, as an outnumbered police tried to disperse them. Further down the road a bus that was driving by was stopped and set on fire.

Children's Fight

A pilot guides some children to the awaiting plane during an event held at Grand Central Airport in Midrand near Johannesburg. The airport hosted over 100 children from disadvantaged backgrounds for their Children's Flight Charity event in which the children are entertained, fed and given the opportunity to fly in one of the number of planes that take part in the event.

Crocodile feeding time


Johannesburg Zoo released their 15 male Nile crocodiles from their winter hot house and fed them their first meal in 3 months, a whole lamb carcass. Crocodiles need to have their temperatures controlled at around 26 degrees C and the hot house stay allows them to do this over the cold Johannesburg winter months. Whilst they are in there they don't eat at all, when it warms up and they are taken out, they are very ready to eat.

Tembisa Tornado

Emergency services at Phumulani Mall in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni after a freak tornado blew through the area causing massive damage to the mall, a hospital and various houses in the area.
 Residents of the area in Tembisa that was hit by a freak tornado clear up the debris around their houses the day after it hit.

Ed Force One

British rock band Iron Maidens plane lands at OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park near Johannesburg, The plane is known as "Ed Force One" in tribute to the bands mascot Eddie, that is also seen on the planes tail. The lead singer of the band, Bruce Dickinson is the pilot and takes off and lands the Boeing 747 in every stop they do on their Book of Souls world tour, which has included 37 destinations worldwide so far.

An Agusta AW109 military helicopter about to pick up an injured pilot during a simulation, whilst a Rooivalk attack helicopter provides cover during the SANDF Capability demonstration in the main arena at the Rand Show in Nasrec, Johannesburg. The annual Rand Show features a large military display area and loads of other attractions for the whole family.

Kgosi Mampuru Prison Gallows

The gallows during a media tour at Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria, Gauteng. The tour was held in conjunction with the launch of the Gallows Exhumation Project in which the remains of 83 political prisoners that were hanged will be exhumed, identified and handed over to their families.

Beer looters
