Police at the scene of a shooting on Bowling Avenue in Sandton which resulted in the death of a man believed to be in his 40's, 20 June 2017. According to witnesses, 4 rounds were shot into the car at the robots on South street, then the suspect drove away as the victim drove into the curb.

Homo Naledi - Neo
A newly found example of a Homo Naledi skeleton named Neo during a media event held at Maropeng, 9 May 2017 to announce more findings from the Rising Star cave system in which Homo Naledi was found a year and a half ago. The age of Homo Naledi has been determined to be in the vicinity of 335 000-236000 years old, meaning that it is likely they roamed the earth in the vicinity of Homo Sapiens demonstrating for the first time that another species lived alongside the first humans in Africa.

Anti-Zuma protests

The President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma is highly controversial and protected by the ruling party, the ANC. He is allegedly linked with state capture, which has seen the country downgraded, billions being siphoned off from the fiscus and laws of the country being flauted by his close friends.

Olievenhoutbosch protest

They also went house to house in a RDP development forcing residents to produce proof that they received the house legally and didn't buy it as they say is happening.

Mine rescue attempt
Mine rescue drop a specialized dolly with a camera on down the hole during the rescue attempt of a 5 year old child that fell down a large sinkhole formed around an old mine shaft in Jerusalem informal settlement near Witfield in Germiston, Ekurhuleni.
The rescue attempt was finally called off as the sides of the mine shaft were too unstable to rescue the child that would have unlikely survived the 40 meter fall.

Barricaded roads during a protest by former Jozi@work employees outside the official opening event of the River Park clinic in Alexandra, Johannesburg. They are unhappy about the cancellation of the Jozi@work program. The opening had to be cancelled by the Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba due to the protest.

Pretoria Xenophobia
A group of Mamelodi residents marched against the influence of foreign nationals in their community through the Pretoria CBD near a well known area of foreign nationals, mainly Somalis. Things got heated as a standoff ensued between the residents that were there to defend their property and the marchers threw insults at each other, whilst the police kept the two groups separated.
Residents of the area stand their ground.
Police shoot rubber bullets to disperse the group of foreign nationals.

The group of Mamelodi residents continued their march through the CBD.
The police pounced to arrest the group after they hemmed them in.
They confiscated a large amount of drugs from the protesters.
One of the protesters was arrested with an illegal firearm.

Pretoria's new pygmy hippo
The one month old Pygmy Hippo that was born at the Pretoria Zoo takes his first steps into his permanent outside enclosure at the National Zoological gardens in Pretoria, South Africa. The pygmy hippo that is naturally found in West Africa is listed as endangered by the IUCN's red list of endangered species.
