A new party...

Former ANC chairperson, Mosioua Lekota speaks during a press briefing at Primedia Place in Sandton, Johannesburg. Mosioua Lekota has hinted that he is going to start a new splinter party of the ANC. Now, personally, I feel that is great, as I have always thought that the ANC's outright majority is a cause of concern in a real democratic country, so all I can do is wish him luck in his endeavours and hope that the party he forms will become a viable opposition for the voters that may be disillusioned by the current situation in the ANC.
The more power the opposition parties have, the harder it is for power to be abused by the ruling party.

Although i tend to agree with you, it is a well known fact that these "splinter" parties never succeed in opposing the ruling party, take the UDM & IFP for instance.

It is my opinion that Mosioua Lekota and those that would follow him should break away entirely and join a party that has any hope of challenging the ANC such as the DA who were the only party to make small but significant inrodes in the last elections.

The major hold the ANC has on voters in the country is loyalty -- no party will dent the ANC's vice-grip on the electorate accept a group that could possibly tap into that loyalty. If the right members of the ANC join Lekota, complete with their struggle credentials, I think it could become a formidable force. Well, I'm hoping anyway. This could be the breath of fresh air our democracy needs.
