One more!
A light aircraft on Rand Airport Road in Germiston after it crashed through a wall at Rand airport, nobody was hurt, but the plane (and the wall ) was heavily damaged. One more idiot! It seems that nearly everywhere I go, there is someone that has a bit of responsibility and feels that everybody around them must listen to them, regardless of how idiotic they may be. This guy starts harassing me, saying that I can't take pictures of this accident, he refuses to give his name and and threatens to "confiscate my camera', I duly tell him that if he touches my camera, I will break his teeth... Then after a while of listening to his nonsensical babble, I walk away, he follows me and pushes me saying that he will "kick my ass' (his words). Too many cops around so, I give him my business card, tell him to give me a call, cause if he's keen to be in a world of pain, I'll meet him halfway. He's still welcome, "If you're reading this, buddy, give me a call, big boy, we'll talk...

"Deadly force"
South African National Police Commissioner, Bheki Cele speaks at an event in Primedia's building in Sandton, Johannesburg. There has been a controversy surrounding some statements from Bheki Cele recently, but generally I agree with him that the only way to deal with crime is with a strong hand, and a criminal pointing a firearm at the police (or anybody) must die in a hail of bullets. The problem lies with some of the police members, I'm not sure that they will all use "deadly force" at appropriate times, as has been demonstrated a few times recently when innocent civilians were killed by trigger happy cops.

Best President?
Jacob Zuma and his wife Nompumelelo Ntuli at the Africa Conciousness media leadership awards ceremony held at the Sandton Convention center.Jacob Zuma behind Kenneth Kuanda during the event that he was given an award for being the "Best African President". I'm not too sure whether he deserves it , He hasn't really done much, other than talk. So, I wonder how they justified their decision, maybe its just the case that the competition was really weak.
Casting Call
A model during a casting call for the Audi Joburg Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010 Collections on January 20-23 at the Sandton Convention Centre.I'm no model... thats for sure. Don't fancy being one either. It seems quite brutal, they walk in to the room-all eyes on them, they get told to walk, they walk, they get told to go.
I felt real sorry for some of them.

Bullet Proof
Robert Steyn fires two rounds at the Safe Case vest with a R5 during a test. The test held at Gun City shooting range in Boksburg shows the vest created by Safe Case outperforms the police issued vest dramatically with it stopping all the shots from an AK47, R1, R4, R5, M16 and a Gurran.Theres a bit of a controversy about the quality of the police issued bullet proof vests, in a demonstration comparing the police issued vests against the Safe Case vest, the Safe Case was dramatically better, but in another test the police issued ones performed better, there has been talk of court action and various other allegations between Safe Case and BPT (the current supplier of the police vests). I reckon to put it all to rest the two parties should agree on an independent expert and do a comparison and get done with it.

Police cover up
Police lead out several suspects from a house in South Hills, Johannesburg. They arrested the suspects after swooping on a house and finding hundreds of thousands of Rands of stolen goods and two hijacked cars. This was a laugh... When I arrived at the house, I was the only photographer there and I told the superintendent that even though I will be taking pictures of the suspects I will try to avoid their faces (as being recognisable can sometimes hinder the prosecution) and at the very least, I will blur them when published. He wasn't convinced, so I gave him my word, still he's not convinced, I pleaded with him to believe me (I want these guys to be prosecuted more than anybody) So, I had a laugh when they come out with a big blanket over their heads, slowly being herded by some cops, with the superintendent following on with a big smile. I told him jokingly that I'm insulted that he doesn't trust me, especially since I gave him my word. He said that he'd rather be safe than sorry, and this time he's happy he's safer than sorrier. I guess thats fair enough... :)

Riverlea
Residents of Riverlea in Johannesburg protest about houses and service delivery.I was amazed at the amount of youngsters involved in this protest, I was speaking to a few of them, they said that their parents were at work, their school had been closed, so they simply joined the crowds throwing stones at the cops whilst dodging rubber bullets.

The Calabash
Soccer City stadium near Soweto, Johannesburg celebrated its roof wetting. The main construction is complete and it's really quite an awesome stadium, I can't wait to go there to watch, G1 vs G3 during the World Cup tournament (I have bought my tickets, I just dont know who will be playing yet.) The interior of the stadium is quite impressive.A lone vuvuzela blower awaits the thousands of fans.
